FAQ
Who owns Democratic Eyewear?
Democratic Eyewear is - despite the name - just as Danish as "rødgrød med fløde" and the Little Mermaid. There are three obvious owners: Lone, Stig, and Thomas, who work 100% for Democratic Eyewear. A couple of our suppliers own a small part of Democratic Eyewear, which ensures us stable deliveries of quality products.
The Democratic Eyewear store in Odense is 100% owned by the skilled local opticians Annette and Dorthe.
Why are you called Democratic Eyewear?
In 2019, we started Democratic Eyewear based on democratic principles: everyone should have access to buy quality glasses at fair and transparent prices. Incredible as it may seem, these very fair principles make us a challenger in the industry. We do not charge extra for high prescriptions, and the price we mention in our communication is the price that customers ultimately pay. Nothing is hidden or attempted to be written in fine print.
These simple principles have made us Denmark’s highest-rated optician on TrustPilot, which we are very proud of. See the reviews here:

How many stores does Democratic Eyewear have?
We have 5 stores in total at the moment. See our locations here:
Our stores
Do you perform eye tests?
Yes, we do—using the most advanced equipment. We always have opticians working during the stores’ full opening hours. Often, there are two opticians working at the same time, so you can always get answers to your questions.
How can Democratic Eyewear sell luxury brands at half price?
To keep prices low, Democratic Eyewear has chosen a business model where we do not earn as much as traditional opticians on a pair of glasses. However, since we have significantly lower prices, we should attract more customers—this way, we achieve a reasonable business while keeping prices low at the same time.
Which lens suppliers does Democratic Eyewear use?
We have two lens suppliers: Rhein Vision and Hoya. Our suppliers produce lenses that are fully comparable to those from the larger and more well-known suppliers.
Can I buy only lenses and have them mounted in my own frame, even though this was not purchased from Democratic Eyewear?
Yes, of course. Every day, customers come in to our stores with frames they love, and we help them fit new lenses into them. It costs DKK 1,000 for a set of single-vision lenses and DKK 3,000 for a set of multifocal lenses - all inclusive.
Is there a guarantee if I can’t use multifocal lenses?
In very rare cases, one may find themselves unable to use multifocal glasses. In these cases, we change them into two pairs of glasses with single-vision lenses.
Does Democratic Eyewear also sell contact lenses?
Yes. We carry all the major brands of contact lenses.
If I want contact lenses, what is the process?
First, you need to book an eye test. During the consultation with the optician, different types of contact lenses will be selected for you to try - free of charge. If you are a first-time user, the optician will train you on how to use the lenses. After a trial period, you will be ready to choose your contact lenses and decide whether you want a subscription or to purchase them “in bulk.”
How long does an eye test take?
In general, an eye test takes about 30 minutes.
